I have had for some time an issue with the fan level of noise and have replaced the fan with a Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX.
When comparing the original NMB 2410ML-04W-B40-B00 , the noctua is 19.3 dB(A) and the NMB is 33.5 dB(A)
My wheel is well out of warranty so I am happy to make the change noting the slightly less air flow of 30 m/3/h compared to 36 m/3/h for the NMB.
The Fan came with a 4 to 3 adapter that I could use for the 2 pin connector needed. Fan is pulling air into the power box for cooling.
Silence is golden.
It looks like this PS is the MW SP-320-24 (like the one Sim Racing Garage tetsed) vs. my Accuforce V2 has a MW RSP-320-24 which is slimmer, and has a 2404KL-04W-B30-B00 fan. This one is 60x60x10mm and there is not enough room for a 25 deep fan unfortunately. Looking for a low noise 10mm deep fan, but I suspect the tiny blades need to spin fast to move the air which makes the noise. Specs are 13.8 CFM and 29dB. Another option would be to cut the plastic case and mount the Noctua fan on the outside....
Just adding an additional comment: I've turned the fan around to vent outwards, rather than blowing in and it is much more quiet (much better). This is with the 10mm deep fan on the MW RSP-320-24
Hi.
I bought this exact same Noctua fan and replaced the fan in the power supply with it. I had to use a 3 to 2 pin adapter to make it fit. For some reason it doesn't spin up when I power up the Accuforce.
Got it fixed. I had to swap the wires in the 2-pin adapter so that the red and black wires were in the same order as it was with the old fan. For some odd reason they were the wrong way. Now the fan works and oh it's so much more quieter!!
Good to hear Atte. Silence is golden.
My rig is in the garage. I wear over ear, noice cancelling headphones, so the fan noise has never been an issue for me while using it. If I do not cut power to my rig when not in use, I can hear the fan, but it has not caused me to want to swap the fan unit out because of it.
Power supplies in some earlier controllers thermally controlled fan speed, but recent fans always run at full speed. FWIW, installing a nominally (2dB) less noisy fan using elastomer fan isolators and cutting away the metal grille helped some (4dB), but it is still the noisiest part of my rig.
The AccuForce does have an automatic power saving mode, but the fan itself is always-on in recent production batches.
We initially went with an off-brand PSU that had a variable fan speed but it didn't have the reliability of the MeanWell PSU, so we ultimately went back to the always-on MeanWell PSU. This has served our customers well from a reliability perspective, but it is a little more audible than we would like. We added an inline power switch when we transitioned to the industrial MeanWell PSU.
To put this in perspective, the cabin noise in a typical luxury car at 50mph is more than 2x greater than the sound level of the AccuForce fan:
