Symptom during operation:
Loud clicking and grinding noise from the RHS seat base actuator.
Diagnosis after removing the plate and investigating:
Play/wobble in the upper bearing that rides on the lower cam, and a rough/grinding feel when rotating the bearing by hand. The bearing has failed.
Solution:
Replace this failed bearing.
Questions for Simexperience:
What is the exact specification of this bearing?
Can you please provide me with a replacement bearing?
What is the best operational sequence to replace it?
Many thanks.
Edit: OK, removing the bearing assembly was straightforward (if a little awkward).
Thankfully, the bearing is stamped with the spec.
It's an ABEC-9 rated 608RS, which is a pretty standard skateboard/scooter wheel bearing and readily available. A quick check on Amazon shows you can get 20 of them for £8 delivered. I might as well replace the other side and the two in the seat back while I'm at it. I assume those are the same spec.
They're so cheap it might be worth Simexperience including them as spares? They are, after all, a replaceable/disposable item that WILL fail or wear out over time.
Anyway, hope somebody finds this useful. :)
Edit 2: of course, anyone doing this themselves, remember to use Loctite threadlock on any removed screws and replace the nyloc nuts on the bearing assembly with new ones (or use spring washers). There's a high risk of things vibrating loose otherwise.
